Thomas B. Stahl

Thomas B. Stahl is one of the founding partners of Spencer & Stahl, P.C. 


Prior to the formation of the firm, he was an associate with Silverstein & Ostovitz, LLC from 2009 to 2015, where his work involved domestic matters, including, divorce, custody, and child support. He also worked on guardianship matters.


Mr. Stahl was the Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Timothy J. McCrone of the Circuit Court for Howard County from 2008 until 2009.  While serving as Judge McCrone’s law clerk, Mr. Stahl assisted the Honorable Dennis M. Sweeney (Retired) as a law clerk during Judge Sweeney’s special assignment to the trial of former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon.


Mr. Stahl graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2008.  While in law school, he competed on the J. Braxton Craven Moot Court Team for two years.  During that time, he also worked as an intern in the Office of Chief Counsel, Department of Homeland Security and a Research Assistant to Professor Morad Eghbal and the Center for International and Comparative Law at the University of Baltimore, and served as the President of the Moot Court Board.  While President of the Moot Court Board he increased student participation in the annual Moot Court Competition from 42 students in 2007 to 172 students in 2008.  He earned one of four Dean’s Citation for Service in 2008.


Mr. Stahl was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law and Co-Coach of the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition Moot Court Team from 2008 to 2014.  He was also a member of the James Macgill American Inn of Court from 2010 to 2013.  He completed the Advanced Program at the 2012 Institute for Family Law Associates sponsored by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.


Mr. Stahl has been named a "Rising Star" by Maryland Super Lawyers for the past 6 years.  Mr. Stahl is currently a Governor of the MSBA Board of Governors (2016-2018), and was selected as a liaison to the Rules Committee of the Court of Appeals.  He was recently elected as one of the MSBA's four delegates to the American Bar Association.  He served as President of the Howard County Bar Association from 2015-2016.  He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Howard County Bar Association in May 2011.  He served as Secretary for 2012-2013, as Treasurer for 2013-2014, and as President-Elect for 2014-2015.  He is also the recipient of a 2013 HCBA Service Award and a 2014 HCBA President’s Award.  In addition to the Howard County Bar Association, he is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the D.C. Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.  


He is licensed to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
